There are many benefits of having a 40 Breeder. The ease of catching fish is the reason why these dimensions are called a breeder tank. The lower profile of a 40-gallon breeder tank makes it easy for the fishkeeper to adjust the layout of the aquarium and handle fish. All sides of the 40 Cube are around 20 ¾ “ to end up with 40 gallons. So yeah I would say as long as the coffee table is sturdy it should work fine.Besides these three varieties, there’s also a 40 Cube. The door and leg designs are abit different and mine doesn't have the lines on top but other than that they are the same.Īnyways, it works great, with a 55 gallon, I think it is perfect for a tank stand. That's not it, its pic I found on google images under coffee table, but it is very very close, the basic design is the same atleast. There is 2 inches to spare in length and about 8 inches to spare in width and it sits 14 inches off the ground with the space on the bottom being 11 inches high so there is plenty of storage room as well. Its an old wood table that I had in storage and it has a compartment in the middle underneath, with two walls and sliding door and then the sides are open with two supports at each end so it is pretty sturdy. I've been using an old coffee table as a tank stand for a 55 gallon for about two years now. LOL the image of two people jumping around on top of a dresser! Maybe if I get a coffee table my three roommates and I can stand on top of it to see how it holds up.Īnd if I can't find a good enough coffee table I could always put the tank on the floor, or my dad and I could make a tank stand over the summer (though neither of us have particularly good craftmanship so that might not work out so well hehe). To test if my dorm dresser could hold my 20 gallon long my roommate and I (a little over 200 pounds combined) jumped around on top of it to make sure it wouldn't groan or anything under the weight. I'll look for a suitable solid wood coffee table (preferably one in store so I can test how sturdy it is). The thing is I've even checked out tank stands for tanks larger than a 40 gallon and none can deal with the width of a breeder tank. The dimensions are 37 by 13 and the dimensions of a 40 gallon breeder are 36 by 18. If this is the right one I can say my 40b fits on it perfectly. I think I disregarded the description of how many gallons its made for and looked at the dimensions. I'm 99% sure I ordered this one for my 40b and it fits perfectly.

I'm in my phone so I hope this link works I have seen some pretty awesome looking coffee tables (made of marble, one made of driftwood) that would look astonishing with a tank.but they were pretty pricey themselves! A coffee table is lower to the floor, which with it's height (or lack of, actually) would actually be stronger than something taller (other than an actual stand, of course). I kept my 29 g on a pretty low quality made chest of drawers, and previously on a side table, and never had an issue. I would assume you would avoid a coffee table that's oval or round for obvious reasons. Solid wood (not pressed or made of partical board of any kind) would work best. Would there be any issue with using a coffee table as a tank stand? Any styles/materials that would be stronger? Any materials to avoid? I've realized that coffee tables fit all those parameters. I want something that looks somewhat nice, is fairly inexpensive, and is low set so it's easy to do maintenance from above. So I've been searching for a tank stand for my 40 gallon breeder with no luck.
